PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Accounts Receivable Manager                                                                                                   March 2005- Present

Blum & Sons Electric, Inc., – Carpinteria, CA

Directed many areas related to the accounts receivable and payroll departments for medium size electrical subcontractor. Company has been in business for over 40 years.

  1. Re-designed computerized accounting program to properly record accounts receivable billing using percentage of completion, time and materials, and lump sum billing methods. Changes made to the procedures included properly classifying retention withholding, capturing all billable time and costs using a computerized system versus a hand written system, and reducing research time for preparing detailed time and material invoices.
  2. Hired and trained payroll/human resources specialist to process payroll in-house and manage personnel department. Training included instruction for process weekly payroll for 100 or more employees, including preparation and submittal of all state and federal quarterly and annual payroll reports, monthly worker’s compensation reports, and weekly certified payroll reports for government agencies. After training, developed auditing procedures to monitor staff’s performance.
  3. Designed and implemented computerized weekly job costing reporting for upper management. Reporting methods allow upper management to see which activities have generated the most (and least) profit and how much money the company is making or losing on each job.
  4. Removed duplicate efforts and streamlined operations resulting in a more efficient and profitable business.
  5. Improved accounting system that allowed for comprehensive reports and decreased redundant methods while promoting user-friendly interaction.

Oversaw four person accounting unit utilizing Hydratec accounting software. Prepared and audited annual financial statements, handled collections for active accounts, and controlled payroll processing.

  1. Revised collection procedures resulting in reduced delinquencies and increased cash flow.
  2. During tenure managed credit process attributing to a 100% collection rate in a very soft economy.
  3. Advanced accounting processes for payables and receivables, journal entries, bank deposits, reconciliations, activity/sales analysis, and purchasing.
  4. Modernized payroll processes, including certified payroll, daily reports for government jobs, quarterly and yearly tax reports, workers compensation requirements, and sales tax reports.

Recreation Center Manager                                                                                             December 1989 – June 1990

United States Navy, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department San Diego, CA

Managed the operation of a complete youth center working with five employees providing services to over 100 children. Planned and coordinated details of recurring and non-recurring activities, special events, and joint community programs.

  1. Conducted extensive analysis of services and operations with the idea of strengthening overall functioning and, more specifically, addressing the needs of those served.
